The 11th-ranked Wright State men's soccer team returns to action Saturday after falling to sixth-ranked Virginia on Tuesday night in Charlottesville. Saturday's match has been dubbed the game of the week in the Horizon League, as it will feature the two teams tied for the conference lead in UIC and Wright State.
Raider Round-Up
The Raiders (8-1-1, 3-0 Horizon) return to action this weekend after receiving their first loss of the season on Tuesday at the hands of the sixth ranked Virginia Cavaliers in a tight 2-1 contest. Wright State got on the board first in Charlottesville, but two unanswered goals from the Cavaliers ended the Raiders' unbeaten record to start the season. Despite Tuesday's loss, the Raiders are in the midst of their best start in program history. Junior forward Alec Philippe is a big reason for the success of this team to this point in the season. His team-leading nine goals and 22 points have paced the potent Raiders offense. Senior Dan Bent continues to lead the team in minutes played with 890.
Scouting UIC
The Flames (8-3, 3-1 Horizon) enter Saturday's match averaging just above two goals per match, and surrendering less than one per contest. These numbers have helped UIC find its way to the top of the Horizon League standings, tied with the Raiders with nine conference points. Senior Max Todd sets the pace for the Flames' offense, netting seven goals on 37 shots thus far this year. In net, Sawyer Jackman has played every minute for the Flames, and boasts a stingy .91 goals against average.
Coverage
The Horizon League game of the week is scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 pm, as the second half of a women's and men's double-header. The match is also a part of Wright State's annual homecoming celebration, so Raiders fans are encouraged to pack Alumni Field to support the men's and women's soccer programs. ESPN+ will also stream Saturday's match live.
