The 11th ranked Wright State men's soccer team returned to action Saturday night, against the co-leaders of the Horizon League, the UIC Flames. The match was dubbed the game of the week by the Horizon League, and it certainly did not disappoint as the teams tied 1-1.
First Half
The first half did not start the way the Raiders had planned, as a 12th minute tally from UIC's Max Todd put Wright State behind 1-0 early in the match. The Raiders managed to take seven shots in the first half of play but failed to register a shot on goal in the first frame. Four of UIC's five first half shots were on net, and Joel Sundell turned aside all but one. The two teams entered the half with the Flames holding a 1-0 lead.
Â
Second Half
The majority of play early in the second half was controlled by Wright State, holding its shot advantage that it established in half number one. Stefan Rokvic netted his seventh goal of the season off an assist from Brayden McNitt in the 58th minute to bring the game level. The Raiders carried a 17-10 shot advantage through regulation, but neither team was able to break the deadlock in regular time.
Â
Overtime
The two teams entered overtime looking for the goal to give their team not only the win, but the outright lead in the Horizon League standings. The best chance of either overtime belonged to Stefan Rokvic, who's shot from just outside the 18 yard box in the second overtime flew just right of UIC keeper Sawyer Jackman, but also just wide of the right post. 110 minutes was not enough to decide the match, as each team earns a point with a draw Saturday night.
Â
Up Next
The Raiders, now 8-1-2 and 3-0-1, will have another quick turn-around as they will be back at Alumni Field Tuesday night as the West Virginia Mountaineers come to town. The 7:00 pm match will be carried live on ESPN+.
