Loudon Love Leads the Raiders to Cancun

WSU Plays Penn State Tuesday
Riding a two-game winning streak, the Wright State men's basketball team will travel to Mexico to play Penn State Tuesday at 8:30 PM eastern as part of the Cancun Challenge. Fans can listen to Chris Collins and Jim Brown call the game on Big 106.5 FM and the iHeart App and watch on CBS Sports Network. On Wednesday, the Raiders will play SMU or Bradley at 6 or 8:30 PM as the finale of the tournament.
Wright State
The Raiders have won two straight games after beating Toledo 84-74 and North Florida 89-72, both at home. Loudon Love averaged a double-double for the two games with 20 points against North Florida and 12 rebounds against Toledo. Cole Gentry collected his career-best 30 points against the Rockets. Guard Skyelar Potter was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week as he averaged 13.0 points and nine rebounds for the week after a double-double against Toledo with 13 points and 11 rebounds, adding 13 points and seven rebounds against North Florida. For the season, he is averaging 10.8 points and 6.5 rebounds with seven three pointers.
WSU has won 10 straight in-season tournament games after winning eight over the last two years at their own home tournaments and two so far in the Cancun Challenge.
Penn State
The Nittany Lions are currently 2-1 and coming off an overtime loss at DePaul 72-70. Earlier, they defeated North Florida and Jacksonville State. Junior forward Lamar Stevens leads the team in scoring at 24.0 points per game and rebounding at 10.3 per game. Senior guard Josh Reaves is tops in assists with a 4.7 average per contest. Stevens had 25 points at DePaul and against JSU with two double-doubles so far. He is among the finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
After winning the post-season NIT a year ago with a 26-13 record, PSU returns Stevens and Mike Watkins, who were selected to last year's honorable-mention Big 10 team last March while Watkins and Reaves were named the all-defensive team. WSU dropped the only other meeting between the teams 72-50 on December 3, 2016.
SMU
The Mustangs, 2-2 currently, has wins over Northwestern State and Western Carolina but losses to Southern Mississippi and Lipscomb, all at home. Three SMU players are averaging in double figures, Jahmal McMurray at 17.3, Ethan Chargois at 17.0 and Jimmy Whitt, Jr. at 13.8 while Chargois grabs 9.5 rebounds a game.
Chargois was named to the American Conference Rookie Team last year as SMU finished the at 17-16. He averaged 9.1 points per game a year ago. The teams have never met on the basketball court.
Bradley
The Braves are currently 3-1 with wins over UW-Parkside, Southeast Missouri and Jacksonville State and a loss at Horizon League member UIC 71-70 last Saturday night. Four Braves average in double-figure scoring, including Darrel Brown 13.8, Elijah Childs and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye12.5 and Koch Bar 11.8. Childs is grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game.Â
Bradley was chosen to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference this season with Brown being named to the pre-season second team. Earning the preseason accolade for the second-straight season, Brown was also featured on the 2018 All-Missouri Valley Conference Third Team and the 2017 MVC All-Freshman Team. The Braves were 20-13 overall last year. The Raiders dropped both previous meetings with Bradley: 88-49 in Peoria on December 5, 2006 and 72-65 in Dayton on December 11, 2007.
