Helinski's Game-Winner Lifts @WSU_WSoccer to Overtime Victory Over Green Bay

The Wright State women's soccer team returned to Horizon League action Saturday night, as the Green Bay Phoenix visited Alumni Field. On a clear, crisp evening, the Raiders came out victorious in overtime by a score of 2-1.

First Half
The Raiders came out in front of their home fans Saturday night, and they were ready to apply the pressure from the opening kick-off. In a hard-fought, physical first half, the Raiders jumped out to a 5-2 shots advantage, but heading into the locker rooms, the score remained level at 0-0.

Second Half
The Raiders began the second half right where they ended the first, on the offensive charge. In the 49th minute, Aaliyah Patten did what she has done this entire season, and made things happen simply by shooting. Her shot was parried away by Green Bay goalkeeper Courtney Klatt, and Mattie Cutts charged toward the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net to give Wright State the 1-0 advantage. After Cutts' goal, the Raiders seemed to back off the gas pedal to an extent, and the Phoenix took advantage. In the 72nd minute, a skillful cross from Green Bay's McKayla Kertscher was kicked past Maddie Jewell and into the net by Alycia Wright to even the score at one. The two teams played for 18 minutes with both trying to get the deciding goal, but this match would need overtime to decide a winner.

Overtime
The Raiders seemed to possess the ball for the entirety of the overtime period. A beautiful pass from Patten in the 96th minute sprung Jordyne Helinski free behind the defense, and she tucked the ball into the net just inside the far post to give the Raiders the dramatic victory.

Up Next
The Raiders will round out their short two-match homestand on Wednesday, and put their unbeaten Horizon League record to the test when the Norse of Northern Kentucky University come to Alumni Field. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm, and the match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
