11/30/2019 1:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Three Raiders finished with double-digit scoring days as the Wright State women's basketball team held off a determined Loyola Maryland squad for a 66-51 victory Saturday morning on the final day of the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament in Boca Raton, Florida.
Wright State will stay on the road for back to back contests as they face off against UT Arlington on December 4 at 7:00 p.m. and then will head to SMU and take on the Mustangs December 6 at 7:00 p.m.
Sophomore Angel Baker finished with a game-high 23 points on Saturday, with senior Michal Miller tallying 12 points of her own and for the second time this season, redshirt freshman Shamarre Hale contributed 10 points. Senior Teneshia Dixon pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds and added four points as well.
The Raiders finished the morning shooing 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line while hitting 42.9 percent of their shots from the field (24-for-56). Despite being out rebounded by Loyola Maryland (40-36), the Raiders forced 19 turnovers and recorded eight steals.
Wright State came out of the gates with an early four point lead before Loyola Maryland answered. The Raiders remained in control for majority of the contest outscoring Loyola 16-10 at the end of the first quarter. Loyola didn't back down as they outscore Wright State 13-10 heading just before halftime. At the end of the third quarter, the Raiders were up 45-38 as Michal Miller started the fourth quarter with a three, putting Wright State up by 10. Back-to-back three pointers by Angel Baker helped the Raiders pull away and ultimately walk away victorious.
