Raiders Open Tournament Play Friday vs Milwaukee
The Wright State women's tennis team won their last regular season match of the season 5-2 against the Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday night. The win sets the Raiders' record at 15-14 overall and 5-4 in the Horizon League.Â
With Wright State's 5-2 win over the Detroit Mercy and Milwaukee's win 7-0 over Green Bay, the Raiders will earn the No. 5 seed in the Horizon League Tournament.Â
Wright State will face off against the No.4 Milwaukee Panthers on Friday, April 26th in the First Round of the Horizon League Tournament. The League Tournament will take place at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the Purdue University campus is West Lafayette, Indiana.Â
The Raiders suffered a narrow 3-4 loss against the Panthers on April 7th at Milwaukee in the teams' meeting earlier this season.Â
Wright State v. Detroit Mercy
In the doubles competition, the Raiders gained an early lead taking the first two matches against the Titans. Madison Riley and Haily Morgan continued their success at No.1 Doubles with a 6-2 win. Riley and Morgan improved to 17-8 overall and 6-3 in the Horizon League. Wright State picked up the doubles point with a 6-3 win from Grace Whitney and Jillian Milano. With the win, the pair still hold a perfect 4-0 record this spring. Although going unfinished on Court Three, Anna Jones and Andreea Craciun were winning 5-3 before the Raiders wrapped up doubles play.Â
On the singles courts, the Raiders fell in the first two matches and saw the lead flip in favor of the Titans. Jillian Milano tied the match up with a 6-0, 6-2 win which improved her conference record ot 7-2. Grace Whitney grabbed the lead back for the Raiders with a win in straight sets, going 6-3 and 7-5 on Court Five.Â
Madison Riley secured the team win for Wright State at the No.3 position, winning in three sets. The win sets Riley's conference record at 7-2 this spring. Haily Morgan finished off matches on the day with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 win improved her season record to 5-4 in the conference.Â
