The Wright State volleyball team opens Horizon League play this weekend at McLin Gym, hosting Oakland on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before continuing HL competition against Youngstown State at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Raiders have won their last 11 games, sweeping seven of those opponents, and enter conference play at 11-1 overall. They suffered their only loss against Bowling Green in the first match of the season at the Golden Dome Invitational. The Raiders were tournament champions at all four non-conference tournaments - the Golden Dome Invitational, the Xavier Invitational, the Wright State Invitational and the Ball State Tournament.
This will be the Raiders best record through 12 games to start a season since the 1981 campaign that also saw a 11-1 start. The 1981 team opened the season with eight wins before its first loss and finished 46-11 with a trip to the AIAW Division II National Championship. More recently, the Raiders opened the 2001 campaign at 10-2 on the way to a 21-7 overall and an 11-3 Horizon League record. The 1985 squad also jumped out to a 10-2 start to the season, dropping its first two games of the year before rolling off 16 straight wins, which still stands as the program record for consecutive victories. The 2019 team's current 11-game winning streak is only the fifth double-digit winning streak in program history.
