Raiders sweep Oakland for first HL win

The Wright State volleyball team carried its non-conference momentum into Horizon League play, defeating Oakland in three sets on Friday night. The Raiders look to continue their 12-game winning streak tomorrow when they host Youngstown State at 4:00 p.m. inside McLin Gym.
The Raiders offense had a successful HL debut, ran by Lainey Stephenson's 31 assists. The team tallied 41 kills, finishing with a .301 hitting percentage. Teddie Sauer and Megan Alders led the team with 10 kills each as Sauer only committed one error off 21 attempts, which equaled a .429 hitting percentage. Celia Powers knocked added seven kills to the combined total and Taylor Gibson added six. Stephenson added the only solo block to the Raiders nine total blocks. The Raiders picked up 41 digs, with Jenna Story tallying a match-high 14 digs.
Set 1
Oakland earned the first point of the game from a kill, but Gibson answered back to tie the score at 1-1. Hannah Colvin went on serving run of four points to give the Raiders the lead 4-1. Wright State was able to go on runs of points to keep the lead throughout the set. Gibson and Sauer knocked down back-to-back kills for the score to reach 10-4. After Oakland's second timeout, Grace Hauck powered down a kill and the Raiders led by 10 points. Powers knocked down point 20 for the Raiders and then Colvin went on another four-point serving run. Alders knocked down a kill for match point to give the Raiders a 25-9 set win.
Set 2
The set started with a kill from Gibson and the teams traded points before the Raiders took the lead at 5-4. Oakland trailed by two points, then Wright State went on a four-point run to extend the score to 14-8. Ellee Ruskaup served up an ace to give the Raiders 18 points and a four-point advantage. The Raiders went on another run of points to give them match point. After an attack error from Oakland, the Raiders won 25-18.

The Raiders won the first point from Stephenson's ace. The two teams were tied at 7-7 until Wright State went on a five-point run to take the lead at 12-7. Sauer and Hauck added a kill each to add to the Raiders advantage and make it 14-8. Oakland was down by seven points when they called their second timeout for the match. The teams went kill-for-kill but Oakland couldn't close the gap. Sauer added point 20 as the Raiders went into the red zone leading by eight points. After two attack errors from Oakland, the Raiders won 25-14.
