OAKLAND, MI – The Wright State women's soccer team fell victim to a trio of first half goals on Sunday afternoon as host Oakland handed the Raiders a 3-1 defeat in Horizon League action.
With the loss, Wright State (4-9-3, 2-5-2 HL) remains on the outside of the Horizon League postseason picture with two regular season matches remaining.
On Sunday, Oakland (9-7-1, 8-0-1 HL) remained undefeated in League play with three first half goals in a 10 minute span, beginning when Jessica Shears found the bottom right corner of the net in the 27th minute. The Golden Grizzlies added to their advantage on Sharon Sampson's score in the 35th minute, followed by a Karabo Dhlamini 37th minute goal, both also to the lower right corner, to take the lead int the break.
Wright State got on the scoreboard thanks to Destiny Johnson's team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 60th minute when she found the back of the net off an assist from Josie Krupp, but the Raiders would be unable to cut any deeper into the deficit.
The Raiders were held to just three shots in the loss, with Johnson recording a pair of attempts while she and Krupp tallied the two Wright State shots on frame as Lauren Borchert added the additional attempt. Oakland's Dhlamini and Alexa Sabbagh each had three shots as the hosts outshot the Raiders 14-4. Wright State goalkeeper Erin Baker finished with four saves in the loss.
