Pair of second half goals lift Women's Soccer to Senior Day victory

DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team used a late goal to secure a much-needed home win on Senior Day Saturday afternoon, coming from behind for a 2-1 victory over UIC at Alumni Field.
The win moved Wright State (5-9-3, 3-5-2 HL) up to 11 points in the Horizon League standings and into a tie for seventh, one position out of the postseason picture with one match remaining. The Raiders close the regular season with a Wednesday night home contest against Northern Kentucky, which is scheduled fir a 7 p.m. kickoff and is slated to be streamed on ESPN+.
On Saturday afternoon, UIC (1-12-3, 1-7-2 HL) took an early lead on Megan Bowman's penalty kick goal seconds before the halftime break after the Flames controlled much of the possession over the first 45 minutes.
The Raiders responded with better ball control in the second half, knotting the score in the 66th minute on Brittney Petrosky's goal. Lauren Borchert sent a cross into the box that was deflected down by Destiny Johnson to the waiting foot of Petrosky to find the back of the net for the equalizer.
Wright State's offensive momentum late led directly to the game-winner, as a UIC foul was called just outside the box as the clock ticked into the 89th minute, where Michelle Rings drilled home the winner off the free kick opportunity.
Wright State finished the afternoon with a 16-12 shot advantage, with 14 of its opportunities coming in the second half once the momentum swung. The Raiders also had an 8-4 advantage in shots on frame. Petrosky and Borchert each finished with four shots to pace all players, while Rings and Kaylin Helinski each had two attempts as well.
Raider goalkeeper Erin Baker had three saves in the win, all coming in the first half, while UIC keeper Lauren Keiser checked in at the break and finished with six second half saves along with the two goals allowed.
