
Women's Soccer begins critical stretch Sunday at Fort Wayne

DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team hits the road for a short trip to take on Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon, where first kick is slated for 1 p.m. and the match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

The Raiders (4-6-3, 2-2-2 HL) are coming off a final-second loss at home Thursday night to Detroit Mercy, snapping what had been a four-match unbeaten streak, while Fort Wayne is 3-64 overall wit a 2-4 mark in League play and has lost its last three matches. The Mastodons are 2-1-2 at home to date, while the Raiders have a 3-3-1 mark away from Alumni Field this season.
With five matches remaining in the regular season, the Raiders currently sit fifth in the Horizon League standings with eight points, one back of Green Bay in fourth and two points ahead of the trio of Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Fort Wayne. Amongst the group around them, the Raiders have tallied double overtime ties against Green Bay (on the road) and versus Youngstown State, while Wright State went on the road for a 2-1 victory at Cleveland State last weekend.
Following Sunday's match at Fort Wayne, three of Wright State's final four regular season contests will be at home on Alumni Field.
Destiny Johnson's four goals leads the Raider offense, while Olga Massombo has added three goals of her own. Johnson's nine points and 21 shots pace the Raiders as well. Six other Raiders have recorded double-digit shot attempts to date: Brittney Petrosky (17), Michelle Rings (15), Lauren Borchert (13), Massombo (12), Kaylin Helinski (12) and Josie Krupp (10). Johnson and Borchert each have a team-leading 11 attempts on frame so far this season.
Fort Wayne is coming off of a 6-2 loss at Northern Kentucky on Thursday night. Morgan Reitano leads the offense with four goals, while four players all have two scores to date. Reitano's 24 shot attempts also pace the team, while Kelsey Gallagher and Zoe Greenhalge each have tallied 20 attempts to date.
One of the newest members to the Horizon League, Fort Wayne finished the spring season 3-5-1 overall and 2-5-1 in Horizon League play. Wright State leads the all-time series 9-0-1, and this will be the first meeting as League foes, with the last matchup coming back in 2016 – a 1-0 Raider win at Alumni Field.
