LAST TIME OUT
Trey Calvin had a career night, but it was not enough as Wright State fell at No. 6 Purdue 96-52 Tuesday night. Calvin finished with a game-high 21 points, surpassing his former career-best 19 points from December 2020, but Wright State saw scoring from only five other Raiders on the night. Tanner Holden finished with 17 points, while Grant Basile's final tally was seven points. The Raiders also saw scoring from Alex Huibregtse (four points), James Manns (two points) and Andy Neff (one point).
COLONIAL CLASH
Wright State and George Washington will square off for the first time in program history on Monday afternoon, in what will be the Raiders' second-straight first meeting following last Tuesday's matchup at Purdue. Monday's meeting continues a trend for the Raiders, as this will be the third "first" meeting in four games for Wright State to date. The Raiders also have a first-time meeting with North Carolina State down the road on December 21. Depending on how the bracket shakes out this week, the Raiders could also square off against James Madison for the first time (in a second round matchup) and have a first meeting with either Long Beach State or Missouri State, both of which are on the other side of this week's bracket.
GEORGE WASHINGTON BULLETS
George Washington opened the season with a three-point home win over Saint Francis on November 9, but has lost four straight heading to Naples, including a pair on the West Coast against UC San Diego and Cal State Fullerton. George Washington returned home Friday night, falling to UMass Lowell in its last action before Florida. Ricky Lindo Jr. was the only player in the Atlantic 10 to average a double-double last season, and the senior has now developed a knack from deep this season with a 8-of-13 (61.5%) showing from beyond the arc. Lindo Jr. has hit multiple threes twice and has nearly matched his career output of nine made triples over his first three seasons (26.4%). James Bishop entered 2021-22 as the A-10's leading returning scorer after putting up 19.1 points per game last season. Bishop reached double figures in 15 of his 17 games last season with 11 20-point games. He became the first Colonial to average at least 19 points/game in a season since 2002-03.
THE LAST TIME WE WERE IN THE SUNSHINE STATE
Wright State makes its second visit to Florida for tournament play in the last three seasons after playing in the Gulf Coast Showcase in November 2019. Among current Raiders, Grant Basile averaged 8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and shot 39 percent while averaging over 20 minutes; Tanner Holden turned in 6.7 points and added 6.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent in 29.3 minutes per contest and Trey Calvin chipped in 4.3 points in 21.3 minutes/game off the bench.
CAREER-HIGH CALVIN
Trey Calvin had a career night in Wright State's loss at Purdue on Nov. 16, finishing with a game-high 21 points, surpassing his former career-best 19 points from December 2020. Calvin finished the night 9-of-17 shooting, including hitting three of his nine three-point attempts, as his nine made baskets was also a career-best.
