
Wright State faces Detroit Mercy on the road

The Wright State men's soccer team faces its first road contest of the 2021 spring season as the Raiders prepare for a Wednesday afternoon matchup against Detroit Mercy. Kickoff it set for 1 p.m. from Michigan.
LAST TIME OUT
WRIGHT STATE – The Raiders are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Horizon League preseason favorite UIC on the opening day of Horizon League play. UIC looked to strike early as the Flames recorded three shots nearly four minutes in the contest, two of which were saved by Isaiah Slabaugh. UIC's Diego Mendoza tallied the Flames' first and ultimately only goal of the contest in the ninth minute, giving the Flames a 1-0 advantage. Wright State looked to tie the contest in the 46' as Zion Beaton's shot to the bottom left corner of the net was saved by UIC's Sokratis Vasilas. The Raiders kept UIC from attempting a shot in the second half until 20 minutes had elapsed.
DETROIT MERCY – Detroit Mercy scored two unanswered goals last Thursday to earn a come-from-behind victory on the road at Northern Kentucky. 2019 leading scorer Kyle Bandyk converted on a PK to tie the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute for the Titans. Jake Poorman's goal 20 minutes into the second half, which proved to be the game-winner, gave Detroit Mercy the 2-1 advantage.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy was picked sixth in the #HLMSOC preseason poll, tallying 71 total votes. The Titans finished 2019 with an overall record of 7-11-1, including a 4-3-1 conference mark.
Several key pieces return for the Titans this season, including leading scorer and junior Kyle Bandyk, who had four goals and two assists for a team-high 10 points in 2019. Seniors Demetri Pliakos and Mohamad Miri also return for Detroit Mercy.
