Women's Soccer Open 2020-21 Campaign at Cleveland State Wednesday

After nearly 14 months, the Wright State women's soccer team kicks off the 2021 spring season on the road at Cleveland State Wednesday afternoon, for a 12:30 p.m. matchup.*  

*Due to COVID-19 issues within the Green Bay Phoenix women's soccer program, Wright State's season-opener last week was canceled.

LAST TIME OUT
WRIGHT STATE – The Raiders finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 10-6-2 and a 5-4-0 mark in Horizon League play. Wright State tallied three consecutive losses to close the season, including falling to Northern Kentucky in the First Round of the Horizon League Championship, 3-1. NKU was first to score in the 23' as Lindsey Meyer connected for her third goal of the season, before the Norse increased their lead to 2-0 before Sydni Callahan cut the lead in half for her second goal of the season. NKU increased their lead in the 87' to take the contest.

CLEVELAND STATE – The Vikings finished the 2019 season 6-8-3 overall, while tallying a 4-4-1 conference mark. Cleveland State ended their 2019 campaign with a 3-2 victory over Wright State in the early days of November. Grace Krosky started the scoring efforts with her goal in the 9' before the Vikings increased their lead in the 47'. Wright State's Jordyne Helinksi cut the lead in the 57' before Grace Grant's goal gave the Vikings a 3-1 advantage. Helinski tallied her second goal of the night in the 74' but the Vikings held on to walk away with a 3-2 victory on the final day of regular-season play.

LOOKING AHEAD
WRIGHT STATE –
Wright State was picked sixth in the #HLWSOC preseason poll, receiving 91 total votes. The Raiders were second in the league in scoring at 1.78 goals per game during the 2019 season. Sophomore defender Michelle Rings, who made the all-freshman team last season returns for Wright State. The Raiders also added several new faces to the roster, including seven freshman and three transfers.

CLEVELAND STATE – The Vikings were picked seventh in the #HLWSOC preseason poll, tallying 79 total votes. Grace Krosky, who netted a team-high four goals during 2019, will return to the pitch for her sophomore season. Elena Gutlove will also be returning to the Green and White's lineup once again. Stevie Holbrook, Grace Grant, Essence Canady, Ali Marin, Ja'Maya Ward and Megan Bine will compete for the Vikes this upcoming season, playing in a combined 199 games over their Cleveland State careers.
