Raiders fight, fall to Jaguars Wednesday

The Wright State women's soccer team came up short on the road against IUPUI on Wednesday afternoon falling 3-2 to the Jaguars in Indianapolis.

With the loss, the Raiders fall to 2-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in HL play while the Jaguars improve to 3-0-1 and 3-0-1 in conference play.

An own goal by Wright State started what would become a goal-heavy first half, in the 8th minute giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Michelle Rings tied the contest at 1-all in the 20th minute as the sophomore converted on a penalty kick that she sent to the top left corner of the goal over a leaping IUPUI keeper for her first goal of the season. Rings' goal snapped a 310-minute Jaguar streak of not conceding a goal.

Three minutes later freshman Lauren Borchert put the Raiders up 2-1 as she connected on a pass from Olga Massombo that she sent to the lower-left corner of the goal. Rings looked to increase Wright State's lead in the 24th minute, but her shot was saved by AP Woodall. IUPUI tallied their second goal of the contest just seven minutes later as Josie Denton tied the contest 2-all before the break.

Following halftime, IUPUI's Valentine Pursey scored what would be the only goal of the second half and the game-winner for the Jaguars' in the 55th minute. Wright State looked to answer in the 64th minute as Alainna Hoehnke's shot to the lower right corner of the goal was stopped. Following a red card on Brittney Petrosky in the 66th minute, the Raiders continued with only 10 players the remainder of the contest.
