The Wright State men's soccer team recorded three crucial points on the road as the Raiders defeated Horizon League newcomer Purdue Fort Wayne 2-1, Monday afternoon.

With the win, the Raiders improve to 5-3-1 overall (5-3-1 HL), while the Mastodons finish their first season in the Horizon League 3-6-0 overall (3-6-0 HL).

Both teams looked to strike early, as Brayden McNitt's shot in the 6th minute went wide left follow by a Mastodon's shot that also went wide, this time to the right. Chris Geddis' shot in the 10th minute looked to put the Raiders up but his shot was saved. After 45 minutes, neither team was able to break the score line. Wright State found the advantage in shots 8-3.

After connecting on a cross from Ids Hannema, Alex Hummel headed a shot into the lower right corner of the net for his third goal of the season to put Wright State up 1-0 just six minutes after the half. Just seven minutes later, Ids Hannema tallied his second helper of the contest as Zion Beaton buried a ball into the back of the net in the 67th minute putting the Raiders up 2-0. With less than 50 seconds left to play, Purdue Fort Wayne was awarded a penalty kick and converted to cut the Raiders lead in half.

BY THE NUMBERS

Wright State found the advantage in total shots 18-8, while also earning a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Raiders outshot the Mastodons 10-5 in the second half.
Brayden McNitt tallied a team-leading three shots (one on goal), while Harvey Slade, Presten Manthey, Blake Pittser, Chris Geddis, and Zion Beaton each recorded two shots (one on goal).
Notably, Monday's victory marked the first time during the shortened season that the Raiders tallied two consecutive victories.
