MILWAUKEE – The Wright State women's soccer team tallied an early second half goal to pull within a score on Thursday night, but the Raiders were unable to find the equalizer, falling to Milwaukee 2-1 in the Horizon League opener.

Trailing by two at the break, Wright State (2-5-1) got on the scoreboard three minutes into the second half when Destiny Johnson found the back of the net in the 48th minute off a deflected shot near the goal, but the Raiders were unable to knot the score over the final 40-plus minutes of action.

Milwaukee (6-1) took the lead early in the eighth minute on a goal by Haley Johnson with a pair of assists off a free kick before adding to the advantage just before the half in the 42nd minute off a score from Lesley Kiesling.

The Raiders recorded six total shots – three in each half – with three of the attempts on frame, while Milwaukee tallied 19 total attempts, 10 of which were on frame. Wright State goalkeeper Jessika Seward finished the night with eight saves, with five coming in the second 45 minutes as the Raiders pushed for the equalizer.

Johnson's two shots, both on frame, paced the Raider offense, which also saw shots from Michelle Rings, Kaylin Helinski, Brittney Petrosky and Erin Graefen. Johnson finished with three shots to pace all players on the night.

Wright State returns home to Alumni Field to host its first Horizon League match of the season on Sunday afternoon. Match time is set for 1 p.m. as the Raiders welcome Youngstown State to town.
