LAST TIME OUT
Wright State pushed its winning streak to 10 straight games after a pair of road sweeps last weekend at Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI. The Raiders were paced by Fort Wayne native Taylor Bransfield's 15 kills on Friday night while Megan Alders added 10 kills. On Saturday, seven different Raiders recorded kills in the sweep, led by Callie Martin's 13 kills as she was the only player on either side to reach double figures. Bransfield added nine kills of her own, while the Raiders tallied 12 service aces – including five from Lainey Stephenson.
DEFEND McLIN
Since the start of the 2018 season, Wright State is 40-8 overall in home matches inside McLin Gymnasium after a 21-60 home mark (and just 54 total victories, home or otherwise) from 2011-2016. Overall, the Raiders are now 54-15 in Horizon League play since the start of 2018 and have 93 total wins in that same stretch (through Oct. 8, 2022).
KNOW THE FOES
- Robert Morris is 8-11 overall and is off to a 1-6 Horizon League start. Robert Morris is coming off a pair of losses and is only 1-4 to date away from home and is winless to date in Horizon League road matches. Robert Morris finished with a 9-21 overall record with a 2-16 mark in League play in 2021. Wright State swept lone matchup last fall and has now won all six matchups all-time, including the first three meetings as Horizon League foes
- Youngstown State is 8-10 to date and 2-5 in the Horizon League, having won two straight matches in HL play, both coming at home where they have recorded half of their wins. The Penguins have had a home-heavy HL schedule in the first half of League play, with just two road HL matches coming into their visit with Wright State. Youngstown State was 6-23 overall and 3-15 in HL play last fall, with the Raiders sweeping the lone matchup back in early October. Wright State leads the all-time series 39-12 with the first meeting coming all the way back in 1977.
NATIONAL MARKS
Entering the weekend, Wright State is No. 31 the country with its 12.70 assists/set mark, aided by Lainey Stephenson's 10.74 assists/set average, which is No. 20 nationally. In Stephenson's absence, Katie Meyer passed out a career-high 52 assists on Sept. 3 against Indiana State. The solid setting has led the Raiders to the No. 44 mark nationally with 915 kills, aided by their 37.12 attacks/set ratio, No. 17 nationally. Defensively, Wright State is No. 4 nationally with a 17.41 digs/set average and No. 11 nationally with 1,201 total digs. Jenna Story's 5.46 digs/set average is No. 9 nationally and her 377 total digs are No. 11 nationally.
THE NCAA STORY
Jenna Story has put herself in impressive company, entering the weekend No. 9 all-time in NCAA Division I history with 2,702 career digs (and counting). Story has a chance to jump up the national list quickly in the coming matches, beginning the weekend 50 digs shy of sixth-place all-time (2,752, Taylor Root, Valpo 2009-12). Story has another connection to Root, as Story has a chance to join Root as only the fourth player in Horizon League history to be a four-time HL First Team selection.
