CHECKING THE STANDINGS
With the draw last Saturday, Wright State notched its eighth point of the season, while Saturday's final moved Cleveland State up to 10 points in the League standings. Cleveland State will enter Wednesday's final day of the regular season in the sixth and final position for advancement into the Horizon League tournament. Wright State faces Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, with NKU currently at nine points in the standings. Along with the Raiders, RMU and Milwaukee also have eight points.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky is 4-9-3 overall with a 3-5-0 mark in the Horizon League, splitting two wins at home and two wins on the road this season. The Norse have won two straight matches to bounce back from a stretch where they lost five in a row.
HISTORY VS. NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Wright State tallied a 1-0 win over NKU last September thanks to Brock Pickett's goal and the Raiders now own a 13-4-0 all-time record in the series. Since NKU joined the Horizon League. Wright State has won six of the eight meetings.
LAST TIME OUT…
Wright State battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Cleveland State, where all the action came in a flurry. First, in the 59th minute, Reece Allbaugh grabbed a bad pass from the hosts and buried the ball into the near post from just outside the box. The lead was short lived, however, as Cleveland State responded with the equalizer just 50 seconds later on Marko Rimac's goal from 25 yards out.
COLE TRAIN
Cole Werthmuller was on a tear for the Raiders from September 19 through October 21, scroring four goals in six matches while also recording a season-best seven shots in the Oct. 7 match against Robert Morris. His 34 shots are the second-most on the roster overall while his 16 shots on frame lead the team.
SHARING THE SCORING
Wright State finds itself with four multi-goal scorers nearing the end of the regular season, paced by Cole Werthmuller's four goals. Reece Allbaugh, Henry Hutchinson and Brock Pickett each have two goals, while the Raiders have also seen five other players chip in one goal each.
DOWN THE STRETCH
The Raiders played four of their final six regular season contests on the road, a task that began October 10 at Bellarmine. The road stretch featured two non-conference matches and Horizon League matchups at Oakland and Cleveland State. The Raiders also hosted Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky at home as part of the final stretch.
THREE'S COMPANY
The three second half goals by Wright State on September 19 against Bowling Green matched the most goals in a game this season for the Raiders, who also found the back of the net three times in a 3-3 draw against Saint Francis (PA) on September 2.
FIRST BUT NOT LAST
Wright State's 1-0 win over Milwaukee on September 16 was the first victory for Alex Van der Sluijs as Raider head coach. Van der Sluijs, who spent the 2022 season as a Raider assistant, is no stranger to winning, having racked up 38 victories in four seasons at the helm of Wilmington College prior to coming to Wright State.
