DAYTON — The Wright State women's soccer program recorded its second consecutive shutout as the Raiders battled IUPUI to a scoreless draw on a rainy evening at Alumni Field.
WSU (5-4-3, 3-1-1 HL) collected a hard-earned point to remain in a tie for second in the Horizon League standings. IUPUI went to 8-2-3 overall and 2-0-3 against conference opponents.
Goalkeeper
Kiera Sarka finished with five saves en route to her fourth shutout performance of the 2023 campaign. Wright State's back line limited the Jaguars to single-digit shots (9) for the first time in conference play and just the third time overall this season.
The Raider attack edged IUPUI with 13 overall shots and six strikes on goal.
Kaylin Helinski led the way with a match-leading five shots, while
Lauren Borchert tallied two shots on frame. WSU added two corner kicks in the second half.
Wright State had four shots on goal in the opening half, with its best scoring opportunity transpiring in the 40th minute on
Makenzie Chinn's high-powered shot up the middle that Jaguar goalkeeper Ashton Kudlo took in. Sarka totaled three of her five saves in the opening 45 minutes to force a scoreless match entering the break.
IUPUI's Kudlo made a diving stop on a shot on goal by Helinski in the 60th minute of the second half.
Caitlin Burger missed just wide of the left post at the 78-minute mark, which was Wright State's final shot of the night. Sarka corralled a save in the 79th minute and did not face another shot for the remainder of the match.
The Raiders will return to action on Sunday, October 8, to face defending conference champion Milwaukee on the road. The Horizon League contest will begin at 2 p.m. ET and stream on ESPN+.
