SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris is 4-3-3 overall to date with a 2-2 Horizon League record and coming off a 3-0 home win last time out over Purdue Fort Wayne. RMU has evenly split its wins, with two at home and a pair on the road. Among common opponents with the Raiders this season, RMU played to a 2-2 draw against Saint Francis (PA) and the Colonials lost to IUPUI (1-0) and defeated Purdue Fort Wayne.
Â
HISTORY VS. ROBERT MORRIS
Wright State evened the series 4-4 with a 3-0 victory in Moon Township, PA last year thanks to goals from Reece Allbaugh, Jacob Adams and former Raider Presten Manthey. The Raiders have won two of the three meetings since RMU joined the Horizon League – both on the road in metro Pittsburgh.
Â
LAST TIME OUT…
Wright State used a first half goal Saturday night to play with the lead before a late tally secured the win as the Raiders defeated Green Bay 2-0 for their first road victory of the season. The Raiders got on the board in the 22nd minute off a Cole Werthmuller header tucked inside the right post after an assist from Henry Hutchinson, who found the back of the net himself with an insurance goal in the 79th minute off Brady Shapiro's free kick opportunity.
SHARING THE SCORING
Entering Saturday's match, Wright State has a trio of two-goal scorers this season with two scores each from Reece Allbaugh, Henry Hutchinson and Cole Werthmuller. Six additional Raiders have each tallied one goal to date. Allbaugh's 28 shots (nine on frame) leads Wright State, while Werthmuller (13), Felix Ezekwuka and Jacob Adams (10 each) are also in double digits.
THREE'S COMPANY
The three second half goals by Wright State on September 19 against Bowling Green matched the most goals in a game this season for the Raiders, who also found the back of the net three times in a 3-3 draw against Saint Francis (PA) on September 2.
Â
FIRST BUT NOT LAST
Wright State's 1-0 win over Milwaukee on September 16 was the first victory for Alex Van der Sluijs as Raider head coach. Van der Sluijs, who spent the 2022 season as a Raider assistant, is no stranger to winning, having racked up 38 victories in four seasons at the helm of Wilmington College prior to coming to Wright State.
Â
PRESEASON POINTS
The Raiders got set for the season with a trio of exhibitions, traveling to face traditional power Indiana to cap the first week of preseason training (1-0 loss, 120 minutes) before home contests against Lake Erie (4-0 win, 105 minutes) and Thomas More (2-2 draw). Conner Osterholt recorded three of Wright State's six total goals, while Charlie Carpenter, Pete Schneider and Cole Werthmuller also all found the back of the net in exhibition action.
Â
PRESEASON POLL
For the second straight fall, the Raiders were picked fourth in the Horizon League preseason coaches poll, announced Thursday afternoon. Wright State tallied 60 total points in the poll, which the league's 10 head coaches voted on.
Â
NEW TO THE SIDELINES
Alex Van der Sluijs was named the 11th head coach in Wright State men's soccer program history in April after serving as an assistant coach with the program since last fall. Prior to joining the Raiders, Van der Sluijs had a four-season stint as the head men's soccer coach at Wilmington College, guiding the Fightin' Quakers to four consecutive winning seasons and being named the 2021 OAC Coach of the Year.
Â
Assistant coach Chris Garcia is also a new face on the sidelines, joining the Raiders after a four-year stint as head coach at Saint Elizabeth University and having played collegiately at Seton Hall.
Â

Following the meeting with Robert Morris, Wright State faces a stretch with four of its final six matches on the road, beginning Tuesday night at Bellarmine. The lone home match in that stretch won't come until October 21 against Detroit Mercy. Tuesday's match at Bellarmine is set for a 7 p.m. start and is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
