Men's Basketball returns home, opens HL play Wednesday night

DAYTON - The Wright State men's basketball team returns home to the Nutter Center for the first time in two weeks on Wednesday night as the Raiders host IUPUI in the Horizon League opener for both teams. Wednesday's contest begins a stretch where the Raiders will play five of their next six games at home through the month of December, with the lone road game on Saturday at Davidson. Fans can follow the action several ways - via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the both the ESPN and radio feeds.
Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. The iHeartRadio app, the TuneIn Radio app and the Audacy app are all FREE and each carry 101.5 HANK FM. Just search "101.5 HANK FM" on any of the three apps for Raider Basketball.
**Wright State has launched the Wright State Raiders app, allowing fans to stay up to date on Raider Basketball and all other sports. Fans are encouraged to use the Wright State Raiders app as the primary method for managing their digital tickets, which are required for entry to all WSU basketball events. Tickets for the 2023-24 basketball seasons are now uploaded and accessible on all purchaser accounts. Wright State tallied 12 of the first 15 points on Wednesday night as the Raiders defeated Illinois State 74-49 in the third-place game at the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Raiders shot 50 percent in the opening half to jump out to a 39-21 lead at the break, aided by holding Illinois State (3-3) to 27 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes and a 28 percent mark for the night. Wright State ended the win with a 46 percent team shooting mark.
Trey Calvin finished with 26 points for his fourth 20-plus point game of the season while Brandon Noel added a season-best 19 points.
EARLY ON THE HORIZON
Wright State will play its earliest Horizon League contest by calendar date in program history on Wednesday, however, the Raiders have faced several current Horizon League foes in eight non-conference matchups over the years, holding a 6-2 overall record in those meetings. The Raiders have played current HL foes three times previously on November 29 - including IUPUI back on Nov. 29, 1976.

Trey Calvin enters Wednesday's action with double digits scored in every game in 2023-24 and 20 of his last 21 games dating back to a win at Green Bay in January 2023. Over the last season-plus, Calvin has recorded 10 or more points in 32 of his last 39 games played.

Brandon Noel tallied 22 total points over the first three games, shooting 7-of-22 overall, before bouncing back in Florida with 16-, 17- and 19-point efforts (19-of-33) in the Gulf Coast Showcase

Brandon Noel was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase all-tournament team after averaging 17.3 points/game in Florida Nov. 20-22, shooting 58 percent from the floor and adding 5.7 rebounds/game and 1.3 blocks/game while playing 100-plus minutes over the three tournament contests.

Drey Carter has quietly tallied five straight six-point scoring efforts off the bench for the Raiders, entering Wednesday shooting 67 percent (14-of-21) while logging 12.0 minutes/game. Carter is averaging 5.7 points/game overall, starting his collegiate career with a four-point scoring output on Nov. 10 at Colorado State before the six-point barrage.
SHARING THE LOAD
Although still early in the season, Wright State enters Wednesday's action with nine players averaging double digit minutes per game, from 35.8 minutes/game for Brandon Noel to 11.3 minutes/game for Kaden Brown. If this pace keeps up, it will be the first time since the 2019-2020 season that the Raiders have had nine players average double digit minutes per contest. That group ranged from Cole Gentry's 31/3 minutes/game to 14.3 for Grant Basile.
