DAYTON – The Wright State men's basketball team is set to depart Ohio on Thursday for an international tour of Italy through August 6.
Â
The Raiders will land in Rome on Friday morning and will play a game there on Sunday, the first of two scheduled contests. The itinerary also features tours of the Vatican and ancient Rome including the Colosseum, as well as a trip to Florence. Wright State will spend its second leg of the trip in Genoa, Santa Margherita and Como, playing its second contest on August 4. The Raiders wrap up the tour with a visit to Lake Como and Bellagio before beginning the trek back to the States on August 6.

"This is a great opportunity for our basketball team to grow as a group," head coach Scott Nagy said. "We are grateful for the chance to make this happen for our guys who will get to experience all what Italy has to offer."
Â
The international trip allowed the Raiders the opportunity for extra practice time this summer ahead of the tour.
Â
"We've tried to take full advantage," Nagy said. "We've tried to mix in some lighter workouts, some offensive installs and defensive principals, some workouts where it's more talking and less strenuous. We feel like we've got to be careful with the level of physicality in July."
Â
"We'll go to Italy and compete against some other teams and get a chance to evaluate where we are," Nagy added. "We've been able to accomplish a lot this summer culminating with this trip. The intensity level and the competitiveness level in the practice gym has been impressive to this point."
Â
The outcomes of Wright State's two games on the tour are secondary for Nagy.
Â
"We are looking forward to playing against competition outside of our team. We feel that we have a deep team and will have the opportunity to spread the minutes around to see where we are at heading into the fall," Nagy said. "Our biggest concern on the court is playing together as a team and keeping everyone healthy."
Â
Wright State will return to Dayton in the late hours of August 6, about three weeks ahead the beginning of the fall semester on Aug. 28 and the official start of the 2023-24 campaign.
