INDIANAPOLIS – The Wright State men's basketball team closed January with another road win as four Raiders finished in double digits scoring and
Brandon Noel tallied his sixth double-double of the season in an 83-76 victory at IUPUI on Sunday afternoon.
Wright State (12-10, 7-4 Horizon) how plays six of its final nine games at home to close the regular season, beginning Thursday night with a nationally televised 9 p.m. tipoff against Youngstown State inside the Nutter Center on ESPNU.
On Sunday, the Raiders never trailed and the game was never tied, with Noel's three-pointer in the opening moments setting the tone for the afternoon against IUPUI (6-17, 2-10 Horizon). Noel finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor (7-of-14) with a 5-of-5 mark at the free throw line as he pulled down 11 rebounds and added an assist and a block to his final 33-minute stat line.
Trey Calvin led all scorers with 27 points as he connected on five three-pointers and passed out five assists, while
Tanner Holden finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while
AJ Braun just missed a double-double of his own with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Wright State finished with 20 assists on its 26 made baskets, the eighth time this season the Raiders have had 20-plus helpers in a game, setting a new high mark for the most 20-plus assist games in a season under head coach
Scott Nagy. Wright State has passed out 20 or more helpers now in five of the last eight contests.
The Raiders shot 49 percent (26-of-53) from the floor and were 8-of-16 from three-point range while going 23-of-26 (89 percent) at the free throw stripe. IUPUI connected at 40 percent (27-of-67) and was just 2-of-13 (15 percent) from three-point range with a 20-of-25 mark (80 percent) from the free throw line. Wright State finished with a 36-32 edge in rebounding, grabbing 27 boards on the defensive glass.
Jlynn Counter finished with 19 points to lead three IUPUI players with double digit scoring games in the loss.
