DAYTON – With goals by
Addy Canter and
Samara Nunn, the Wright State women's soccer team defeated Purdue Fort Wayne in a 2-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon. Five Raider seniors –
Erin Baker,
Olivia Mace,
Heidi Orloff,
Annika Samborski, and
Ainsley Terada – were honored at the conclusion of the game.
Wright State (4-8-2, 2-3-2 HL) outshot Purdue Fort Wayne (8-7-1, 3-4-0 HL) 19-13 and had 12 shots on goal to the Mastodon's six. The Raiders ended the day with nine corner kicks, allowing only two by PFW. The 'Dons bested WSU in saves 10-6.
Leading the Raiders was
Olivia Stroud with three shots, all on goal. Nunn and
Alyssa Thomas each had three shots with two on target, and
Ruby Dunlevy three shots with one on target.
Makenzie Chinn and Terada each had two shots, Chinn with two on target and Terada one.
Caitlin Burger, Canter, and
Mariella Hartmann each had one shot on the day. Goalkeeper Baker logged all 90 minutes, ending the day with six saves. Joining her in the complete game was
Kaylee Pham.
Wright State opened the day with 11 shots in the first 45 minutes, landing seven on target. Burger, Dunlevy, Nunn, and Stroud combined for six shots within the first 15 minutes.
Elise Canter earned her first assist of the season, speeding down the pitch and making a skillful pass for Nunn to score in the 26th minute. Chinn, Hartmann, and Thomas ended the half putting up shots in the final ten minutes.
The Raiders put up eight shots in the second half, with five on goal. Dunlevy, Nunn, and Terada each added a shot in the first ten minutes, followed by Chinn in the 68th. Terada added another shot in the 70th, followed by Thomas in the 72nd. A. Canter raised Wright State's advantage in the 73rd. The goal came as
Tamara Smith placed a corner kick in the box, it was corralled by Hartmann before being passed to Canter to sink it in the bottom right. WSU's final shot came in the 80th minute by Stroud.
The Raiders will conclude the regular season on the road, traveling to Robert Morris on Saturday, October 26 for a 1 p.m. match, then to Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, October 30. Both games will have live stats provided, with NKU's match on ESPN+.
