
Golf heads to North Carolina coast for action

DAYTON – The Wright State golf team participates in the Seahawk Intercollegiate beginning Sunday morning at the Country Club of Landfall outside of Wilmington, North Carolina. The two-day tournament will get underway daily with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts both mornings.

The Raiders return to the tournament after three individuals finished inside the top 10 as Wright State finished second as a group in the event last year. Mikkel Mathiesen led the Raiders individually in a tie for seventh, while Andrew Flynn and former Raider Tyler Goecke  each finished in a tie for 10th.

The 54-hole tournament will be contested on the Nicklaus Course, using the Ocean and Marsh links. The 16-team field will open play with 36 holes on Sunday followed by 18 holes on Monday. The tournament course will play to a par of 72 and measures 7,030 yards.

In addition to the Raiders, the field features: No. 2 Auburn, No. 76 Arkansas State, Campbell, No. 93 Davidson, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville, James Madison, Louisiana Monroe, Maryland, No. 91 Minnesota, Penn State, No. 38 VCU, Virginia Tech, No. 67 Stetson and tournament host No. 79 UNC Wilmington.

Wright State is coming off a fourth-place team finish and an individual title for Shane Ochs at the Peoples Golf Championship, presented by Sea Palms Resort two weeks ago. This week's action will be the final big trip on the regular season schedule for the Raiders, who will also compete in The Jewell tournament April 6 and 7 in Batavia, Ohio and  host the Wright State Invitational April 14 and 15 before the Horizon League Championship the following week in Florida.
