BLOOMINGTON – The Wright State women's soccer team ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday night at Indiana, as the Raiders finished the night with just one shot in a 6-0 defeat to the host Hoosiers.
Wright State (0-3-0) returns to action on Sunday afternoon, staying on the road to take on Southern Indiana in a 2 p.m. ET first touch. Sunday's match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
On Thursday, Indiana (3-0-0) got on the board in the 10th minute and didn't look back, leading by three goals at the break after subsequently finding the back of the net in the 28th and 36th minutes. The hosts added two goals In just over a minute early in the second half before capping the night with an 84th minute tally.
The Raiders finished the night with just one shot attempt, coming off the foot of
Marina Ruthsatz in the 40th minute, that was high and wide to the left of the cage. Goalkeepers
Kiera Sarka and
Erin Baker each logged 45 minutes of action, with Sarka turning away two shots in the first half and Baker adding three second half saves as each allowed three goals.
Indiana tallied 20 total shots, 11 on net, in the win and saw six different players all notch goals. Layla Sirdah led the way with three shots and had the night's opening goal, while the other two first half goal scorers – Piper Coffield and Avery Snead – found the back of the net on their lone shot attempts. Hope Paredes finished with two shots, including her 59th minute goal to begin the second half scoring, while Marisa Grzesiak (60th minute) and Krista Murphy (84th minute) tallied goals on their only shots of the night.
Wright State finished the night with 25 Raiders seeing the pitch, ranging from six minutes of action to 70 minutes for
Kaylee Pham and 75 minutes of play for
Zara Graff.
