FORT WAYNE – The Wright State men's basketball team scored the first seven points of the night, but the shorthanded Raiders were unable to keep pace with Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday, falling 87-64 on the road in Horizon League action.
Wright State (12-13, 6-8 HL) was limited to nine available players making the trip due to illness. The Raiders were led by
Brandon Noel's 25 points and 10 rebounds, his seventh double-double of the season and third in the last four contests.
The Raiders are back in action on Saturday night as they welcome IU Indy to the Nutter Center for Homecoming and a 7 p.m. tipoff.
On Wednesday night, Purdue Fort Wayne (17-8, 10-4 HL) responded to the opening Raider run with a scoring spurt of its own, tallying 14 of the next 16 points over a six-minute span to take a 14-9 lead and ran with it. Wright State closed the first half with the final six points to cut the margin to 10 at 38-28 going into the locker room, but the hosts started the second stanza with an 8-0 run. The Raiders got as close as 14 points three times in the final 12-plus minutes, but the hosts had an answer each time.
Noel finished 11-of-17 from the floor with nine of his 10 rebounds on the defensive glass, while
Jack Doumbia was also in double figures with 15 points, adding eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Keaton Norris finished with eight points, grabbing four rebounds with three assists, while
Solomon Callaghan had seven points in the start.
Andrew Welage chipped in six points and
Michael Imariagbe had three points, with both grabbing four rebounds off the bench.
Alex Huibregtse was held scoreless for the first time since November 2021 against Marshall. Huibregtse's streak of consecutive games with a made three-point basket ended at 32 games Wednesday, his first time not connecting from deep since February 1, 2024 against Youngstown State.
Wright State finished the night shooting 42 percent overall (24-of-57) with a 4-of-22 mark (18 percent) from three-point range. The Raiders went to the free throw line 24 times, connecting at 50 percent. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 48 percent overall (28-of-58) with a 26 percent clip (6-of-23) from three-point range. The hosts were 25-of-31 (81 percent) from the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne saw five players finish in double figures scoring as the group combined for all but 13 of the hosts' points, led by Rasheed Bello's 22 points.
