Peltier Homers Twice, Raiders Fall in Game Two at NC State

RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Wright State baseball team fell to NC State 14-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will look to bounce back in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats and the ACC Network livestream.
 
Wright State (4-8) finished with four runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts. JP Peltier led the Raiders, blasting two homers to left center. Cam Gilkerson and Hunter Warren followed, each adding two hits, while Patrick Fultz and Boston Smith had a hit apiece, and Luke Arnold reached base twice on walks.
 
Wright State struck first as Peltier launched a solo home run for an early 1-0 lead. The Wolfpack followed in the bottom half, taking a 6-1 lead after three. NC State responded in the bottom of the first with two doubles that drove in three runs. They continued in the third, scoring on a sacrifice fly, an RBI-walk, and an RBI-single.
 
With two outs in the fifth, Peltier blasted his second homer, igniting a brief rally with back-to-back RBI singles by Fultz and Warren. The first run came after Smith reached on a fielding error, stealing second before scoring on a Fultz single to center field. Fultz followed suit, swiping second and advancing to third on a throwing error by the catcher before scoring on a Warren single to right. NC State responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a sacrifice bunt, 7-4.
 
NC State extended its lead in the sixth, adding a run on a fielder's choice before breaking it open with a three-run homer to left. A two-RBI double made it 13-4 after the sixth before the Wolfpack capped the scoring with a walk-off RBI-walk, enforcing the run rule at 14-4 in the seventh.
 
Starter Cam Allen took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits over 2.1 innings, walking two and striking out one. Chet Lax took over in relief, striking out four over 1.2 innings while allowing one run on four hits.
 
NC State finished with 14 runs on 14 hits with 12 walks and six strikeouts. Designated hitter Alex Sosa led the team with three hits, including two doubles, driving in two runs. Starting pitcher Heath Andrews put in five innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Anderson Nance closed it out with two scoreless, hitless innings, allowing one walk and striking out two.
