Lively and Johnson Lead Raiders at Ashland

ASHLAND- Emma Johnson won the steeplechase and Cierra Lively took home the high jump crown in a solid performance for the Wright State men's and women's track and field teams at the Ashland Alumni Invite.
Johnson set a personal-best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, checking in with a time of 10:41. The senior cruised to the title, winning by nearly 40 seconds. Lively took another high jump crown at Ashland as the only jumper able to clear 1.68 meters. The senior opened at that height and cleared it on her first attempt. It is her fifth win this spring and she has found the podium in all six outdoor meets this season.  Junior Mia Wyngarden found the podium in the 1500 meters, nearly clipping her season-best time. Her 4:46.81 time at Ashland was only a half-second behind her season-best time set at Bellarmine.

On the men's side, freshman Ian Ricker found the podium, placing third in the 5000 meters. Ricker's time of 15:33.58 paced three Raiders that finished in the top 10 overall. Patrick Statzer and Kalib Tolle finished fourth and fifth in the men's 1500 meters. The junior and sophomore finished within a second of each other at 3:59.73 and 4:00.66, each narrowly missing the podium. In just his second steeplechase, freshman Matthew Lee finished fourth, shaving nearly 15 seconds off his previous time, finishing in 9:55.63.

Wright State will head to Columbus next weekend for the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by Ohio State. The two-day event gets started on Friday and is the final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships.
