Raiders Tripped Up by IU Indy Sunday Afternoon

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Wright State women's basketball team was tripped up on the road by IU Indy Sunday afternoon, falling 59-70.
Wright State (6-12, 2-5 HL) will return home on Wednesday, January 14, as the Youngstown State Penguins visit the Nutter Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. The first 500 fans inside the Nutter Center on Wednesday will receive a free Wright State women's basketball t-shirt.
12 different Raiders saw action on the court Sunday afternoon, with three finishing with double-digit points. Ellie Magestro-Kennedy and Abbie Riddle led the way with 13 points each, followed closely by Rylee Sagester with 12 points. Magestro-Kenndy and Riddle each knocked down five shots from the floor to lead the Raiders. Meanwhile, Sagester knocked down a game-high three shots from behind the three-point line, her first game with multiple three-pointers since December 19 against Kentucky. Claire Henson led the squad with seven rebounds, her ninth game with seven or more rebounds.
IU Indy started the game on fire, shooting nine for 11 from the floor and two for three from behind the three-point line in the opening 10 minutes. The Raiders struggled out of the gate, shooting four for 11 in the opening 10 minutes, knocking down one shot from behind the arc.
The Raiders found their groove in the back half of the second quarter, holding IU Indy scoreless in the final five-plus minutes of the first half and parlaying that into a 9-0 run of their own to trail 30-37 as they entered the locker room at halftime.
IU Indy bounced back in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 19-10 in the third quarter to build a 14-point lead entering the final 10 minutes. Wright State would continue to battle in the fourth quarter but was unable to string together a run that cut into the IU Indy lead.
Three Jaguars finished in double digits, led by Olivia Smith with 16 points, followed by Neveah Foster with 12 points. Ariana Williams finished with a 10-point and game-high 10-rebound double-double. The Jaguars shot an impressive 54% from the floor and 35% from behind the three-point line.
In the box score, Wright State trailed IU Indy in rebounds (32-36), points in the paint (26-40), second-chance points (8-14), and bench points (15-29) while leading in fast-break points (15-10).
