Women’s Basketball Kicks Off Three-Game Homestand Wednesday Night

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team (6-12, 2-5 HL) will kick off its three-game homestand Wednesday night against Youngstown State. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., and the first 500 fans through the gate will receive a Wright State women's basketball t-shirt presented by Wright-Patt Credit Union

SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State enters Wednesday night at 12-5 on the season, and 5-2 in Horizon League play. The Penguins have won six of their last eight games since their last meeting with the Raiders on December 16. Youngstown State is coming off a 58-54 win over Purdue Fort Wayne last Saturday.
Sixth-year guard Casey Santoro leads Youngstown State in scoring with 12.1 points per game. She does this while shooting 37.8% from the floor and 36.3% from behind the arc. Santoro is one of three Penguins averaging double-digit points, followed by Erica King with 10.7 and Sarah Baker with 10.2
Youngstown State features the second-best defense in the Horizon League, limiting opponents to an average of 57.8 points per game. The Penguins do this by blocking shots better than anyone else in the Horizon League, sending away 74 shots in 17 games. Paulina Hernandez leads the Horizon League, averaging 1.8 blocks per game, followed closely by her teammate Sophia Gregory with 1.1 blocks per game.
HISTORY VS. YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Wednesday's game will mark the 76th all-time meeting between Wright State and Youngstown State, a series the Raiders lead 43-32. The Raiders fell to the Penguins 46-65 on the road on December 16. A season ago, the Raiders swept the season series over the Penguins, including a 73-58 home win in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament

The Raiders were tripped up on the road by IU Indy Sunday afternoon, falling 59-70.
12 different Raiders saw action on the court Sunday afternoon, with three finishing with double-digit points. Ellie Magestro-Kennedy and Abbie Riddle led the way with 13 points each, followed closely by Rylee Sagester with 12 points. Magestro-Kenndy and Riddle each knocked down five shots from the floor to lead the Raiders. Meanwhile, Sagester knocked down a game-high three shots from behind the three-point line, her first game with multiple three-pointers since December 19 against Kentucky. Claire Henson led the squad with seven rebounds, her ninth game with seven or more rebounds.
IU Indy started the game on fire, shooting nine for 11 from the floor and two for three from behind the three-point line in the opening 10 minutes. The Raiders struggled out of the gate, shooting four for 11 in the opening 10 minutes, knocking down one shot from behind the arc.
The Raiders found their groove in the back half of the second quarter, holding IU Indy scoreless in the final five-plus minutes of the first half and parlaying that into a 9-0 run of their own to trail 30-37 as they entered the locker room at halftime.
IU Indy bounced back in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 19-10 in the third quarter to build a 14-point lead entering the final 10 minutes. Wright State would continue to battle in the fourth quarter, but was unable to string together a run that cut into the IU Indy lead.
Three Jaguars finished in double digits, led by Olivia Smith with 16 points, followed by Neveah Foster with 12 points. Ariana Williams finished with a 10-point and game-high 10-rebound double-double. The Jaguars shot an impressive 54% from the floor and 35% from behind the three-point line.
HOME SWEET HOME
Wright State has played six of its last eight games on the road and nine of its last 12 dating back to November 24. The Raiders feature a 5-2 record inside the Nutter Center and are coming off an 82-71 win over Detroit Mercy on January 2.

BREEZIE LIKE A SUNDAY MORNING
Senior guard Breezie Williams has made an immediate impact for the Raiders, averaging 12.5 points, 2.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game in a Raider uniform. The Canton, Ohio, native is shooting 40.1% from the floor and 31.3% from three-point range. The senior is also getting it done on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.3 steals per game. Williams currently ranks sixth in the Horizon League in points per game (12.5) and third in steals per game (2.3). The Bryant transfer had a breakout performance on the road at Tennessee State, dropping a new career-high 27 points with three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. She followed up her career night in Nashville with a 20-point performance against Wilberforce in just 14 minutes of action. Williams also finished one rebound and one steal short of a triple-double at Florida Atlantic, finishing with a career-high nine steals and a season-high nine rebounds. Williams has turned in a team-high five 20-point performances on the season, tying her for second in the Horizon League. Three of which have come within the last two weeks against Green Bay (20), Detroit Mercy (26), and Cleveland State (20). Williams currently sits at 985 career points, just 15 shy of passing the 1,000-career point mark.
RIDDLE ME THIS
Redshirt sophomore Abbie Riddle has emerged as a key contributor for the Raiders in conference play, starting the last seven games.The redshirt sophomore has seen her points per game average increase from 4.1 to 6.6 since re-entering the starting lineup on Decemerb 12. Riddle turned in three straight double-digit scoring outings against Kentucky, Green Bay, and Detroit Mercy. The Baltimore, Ohio native scored 10 points in just eight minutes on December 19 at Kentucky, shooting 4-5 from the floor and a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc. She followed up her performance in Lexington with a career night in the Nutter Center on December 29, scoring 15 points on 6-9 shooting and knocking down a pair of three-pointers. She followed up her career night with 14 points against Detroit Mercy on January 2.
RYLEE FROM RANGE
Redshirt sophomore guard Rylee Sagester is not only one of the best three-point shooters in the Horizon League but is one of the best in the country. The Alexandria, Ohio native is shooting a stellar 39.1% from beyond the arc, which is a team best. Sagester's 36 three-pointers sit her at second in the Horizon League standings. Sagester has made more than one three-pointer in 10 of the Raiders' 18 games, highlighted by a pair of games with five made threes against Wilberforce and Bellarmine.
CLAIRE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Claire Henson has been active in the paint for the Raiders, snagging 120 rebounds so far this season. Henson is fifth in the Horizon League with 5.0 rebounds per game.
Henson also has a team high of three double-doubles. The senior has recorded double-doubles against Bellarmine (13 pts. and 12 reb.), Ohio (17 pts. and 15 reb. (career-high)), and Oakland (17 pts. and 10 reb.). Fellow senior Chloe Chard Peloquin recorded the only other double-double for the Raiders in the season opener against Butler (15 pts. and 11 rebs.).
