Raiders Fall in Overtime Wednesday Night

DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Youngstown State 67-78 in overtime Wednesday night in the Nutter Center.
Wright State (6-13, 2-6 HL) will remain home on Saturday, January 17, as the rival Northern Kentucky Norse visit the Nutter Center for the annual SLAMT1D awareness game. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy's 17 points led four Raiders in double-digits. Wednesday marked the third straight game in which Magestro-Kennedy has finished in double figures and sixth overall on the season. Claire Henson (13), Breezie Williams (12), and Maja Dilen (11). Dilen set new season and career highs in points and field goals made/attempted, finishing 5-for-9 from the floor. Henson, Grace Okih, and Olivia Brown all finish with seven rebounds. This marks a new season high for Okih and ties a career-high for Brown. Williams dished out a new career-high seven assists while playing a career-high 42 minutes.
Wright State started hot in the first half, outscoring Youngstown State 14-11 in the first quarter and 21-13 in the second quarter to jump out to an 11-point halftime lead. Henson led the Raiders with 10 points in the first 20 minutes, followed by Magestro-Kennedy with nine.
After the two teams combined to shoot 0-13 from three-point range in the first half, thanks to two quick threes from Magestro-Kennedy and Abbie Riddle. That ballooned the Wright State lead to 15 with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter. The Penguins would chip away and eventually erase the Wright State lead to lead entering the final minute of regulation.
Wright State trailed by three entering the final 22 seconds of play. The Raiders then inbounded the ball to Williams, who fired a pass up the baseline to find Magestro-Kennedy in the corner. The redshirt sophomore nailed the corner three to tie the game at 60. Wright State then played impeccable defense in the final 20 seconds to force a Youngstown State miss and force overtime.
Youngstown State took the lead at the start of overtime and didn't look back. The Penguins outscored the Raiders 18-7 in the overtime period to lock up their 78-67 win.
Sarah Baker led the Penguins with a 25-point and 11-rebound double-double. Casey Santoro (18), Sophia Gregory (13), and Danielle Cameron (10) also finished with double-digit points to lead Youngstown State to its sixth win in Horizon League play.
In the box score, Wright State trailed Youngstown State in rebounds (36-46), points in the paint (36-46), second chance points (15-16), and fast break points (2-3), while leading the Penguins in bench points (20-10).
