KETTERING, Ohio — Redshirt sophomore Jake Wittenauer shot a final-round 1-over 72 and climbed 17 spots on Tuesday to lead Wright State men's golf at the Moraine Intercollegiate at Moraine Country Club. Wittenauer tied for 27th in the 81-player field. The Raiders, who played a lineup of all freshmen and sophomores, finished 13th among 16 teams in a field that included Big Ten programs Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Wittenauer's Final-Round Climb

Wittenauer entered Tuesday at 6-over after Monday's 36-hole opening day, then posted the Raiders' low card in the final round. He made three birdies and played the back nine at even par, with birdies on Nos. 13 and 16.
The Morrow, Ohio, native and Little Miami High School product improved in every round, going 75-73-72, and finished at 7-over 220.

Scohy, Standifer Round Out Top Three

Sophomore CJ Scohy tied for 39th at 9-over 222. The Bellbrook native led the Raiders at 5-over after Monday, sparked by an even-par 71 in Round 2, Wright State's low round of the tournament. He added four birdies Tuesday and led the team with 10 birdies over 54 holes.
Freshman Aiden Standifer of Franklin, Ohio, moved up three spots on the final day to tie for 48th at 11-over 224.

He closed with a 1-under 34 on the back nine Tuesday, with birdies on Nos. 13 and 17.
He opened the tournament with a 2-under 34 on the front nine in Round 1, the Raiders' best nine of the week.

Redshirt freshman Max Clarke of Auckland, New Zealand, and sophomore Landon Harris of Cincinnati each finished at 17-over 230 to tie for 74th. Both shot 76 in the final round. Harris, a Moeller High School product, birdied his last two holes and made seven birdies in the tournament.
As a team, Wright State shot 294-301-298 for an 893 (+41). The Raiders' final-round 298 was three shots better than their second round, and they finished two strokes behind 12th-place Ohio. VCU won the team title at 7-over 859.

Up Next: Dayton Flyer Invitational

Wright State men's golf has opened the fall with:

A tie for seventh at The Virtues Intercollegiate
Eighth in the 14-team field at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational
Third at Ball State's Earl Yestingmeier Invitational

The Raiders close the fall season Oct. 19-20 at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Dayton.

Beyond the Course: The Long Game for Local Veterans

After the fall season ends, the Raiders turn to the Gala of Hope Foundation's Long Game Golf Marathon, a seven-day, 100-hole fundraising challenge Oct. 22-28. The money raised covers immediate needs for local veterans battling cancer, including food, transportation and housing. For a university that sits next door to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it's a chance for Wright State men's golf to use the game to give back to the Dayton military community.
