Men’s Soccer Set for Road Test at Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday

DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team (3-3-1, 2-0 HL) will remain in conference play, traveling over to Indiana on Saturday, September 19 to take on Purdue Fort Wayne. First touch is slated for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Purdue Fort Wayne enters Saturday at 3-2 on the season, and 1-0 in Horizon League play. After dropping back-to-back games to open the season, the Mastodons are currently riding a three-game win streak with wins over Manchester, Defiance, and IU Indy.
HISTORY VS. PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Saturday will mark the 19th all-time meeting between Wright State and Purdue Fort Wayne, a series the Raiders lead 14-3-1. Wright State came out on top 4-2 when the two squads met at Alumni Field a season ago. Jackson Liley and Brandon Razo pace the team offensively, leading the team in goals with four goals apiece.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders remained unbeaten in Horizon League play Saturday afternoon, defeating Green Bay 3-1 at Alumni Field.
The Raiders struck first in the 18th minute when Gabe Gotting found the back of the net off an assist from Daniel Panait. The goal was Gotting's first of the season and gave Wright State a 1-0 advantage.
Green Bay answered in the 36th minute when Noah Radeke scored an unassisted goal to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.
Wright State regained the lead in the 70th minute. Djafar Al Badawi and Tedrick Neptune combined to set up Cairo Duarte, who scored his second goal of the season to put the Raiders in front 2-1.
The Raiders added an insurance goal less than two minutes later. Al Badawi recorded his second assist of the match, finding Maximilian Banfi for his first goal of the season and a 3-1 Wright State lead.
Alex Normandeau played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves to earn the victory. Gotting led the Raiders with three shots, all of which were on target, while Duarte added three shots and a goal.
In the box score, Wright State trailed Green Bay in shots (19-13), shots on goal (8-8), and corner kick opportunities (12-2), but converted three of its eight shots on target in the win.
#HLMSOC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wright State freshman forward Cairo Duarte has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Duarte had a phenomenal week offensively for the Raiders, helping propel Wright State to a 2-0 start in conference play.
The freshman started and played 72 minutes in the conference opener at Milwaukee Wednesday night, scoring the first goal of his collegiate career in the 28th minute to give the Raiders a two-goal advantage. Duarte started again in Saturday's win over Green Bay, playing 64 minutes and once again finding the scoresheet. He scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the 70th minute.
LAST SEASON REWIND
Wright State finished 2025 with a 2-13-1 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Horizon League play. Three Raiders earned Horizon League All-League honors in 2025, with Henry Hutchinson and Roman Kedgley being named to the All-League Third Team, while Alessandro Malterer was named a finalist for the Sportsmanship award.
