Dawnjene DeLong, formerly the head softball coach at the University of Rio Grande, joined the Wright State softball program as an assistant coach in August, 2011.

DeLong directed the RedStorm to a 23-21 overall record in 2011, including a 15-5 mark at home.  Rio Grande finished 14-10 in the Mid-South Conference and placed third in the conference tournament as four members of the team earned All-MSC postseason honors.

Along with her experience at Rio Grande, DeLong has coached with the Miami Valley Xpress summer program for seven years.  She spent four years with the Gold team as an assistant, two years as the head coach of the 18-under team and one year as the head coach with the 14-under team.  14 of her players later went on to play at the collegiate level.

A four-year letterwinner at Bowling Green as an infielder from 2005-08, DeLong is fourth on the school's all-time list in runs scored with 110, tied for sixth in home runs with 13, eighth in walks with 59 and 10th in doubles with 31.  The Falcons won 118 games during her career, including 37 in 2006 to tie a school record, and finished second in the Mid-American Conference's East Division in each of her final three years there.

After smacking 14 doubles as sophomore, DeLong was a Second Team All-MAC selection for the Falcons both her junior and senior seasons, hitting .348 with 29 runs scored and 10 doubles in 2008.  She was also named to the MAC All-Tournament Team that year as she hit .385 in four games.

Off the field, DeLong was a First Team Academic All-MAC honoree in 2008 as well as Third Team Academic All-District by CoSIDA.  She then served as a student assistant coach for the Falcons in 2009 as she completed her bachelor's degree in Education.

A native of Hamilton, Ohio, DeLong is a graduate of Hamilton High School, where she lettered all four years in softball, basketball and volleyball.  Along with her career at Hamilton, she played for the Cincinnati Stars and the Miami Valley Xpress before moving on to Bowling Green.
