As head coach of the Raiders, Ralph Underhill posted a record of 356-162 while leading his teams to seven Division II NCAA Tournaments and one Division I Tournament appearance.
Named the National Coach of the Year in 1983, the year he lead the Raiders to the NCAA Division II title, Underhill averaged 19.7 wins a season over 18 years. He was also named the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1986 and won the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament Championship in 1993.
Two of his teams were ranked #1 in the country in the Division II rankings, including the 1980-81 squad which was ranked #1 from the first poll to the last.
Seven players earned All-American honors during his tenure.
A native of Erlanger, KY, Underhill spent his time prior to WSU as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he helped guide them to a Division II national championship in 1977, after being national runners-up in 1976.
