Ron Nischwitz served as the Raiders baseball coach for 30 years while registering 866 wins.
His teams qualified for the NCAA Division II Regional eight times while finishing as high as second place nationally at the 1987 World Series. His squads won four regular season conference titles and two conference championships while 35 of his players followed in his footsteps by playing in the professional ranks.
Highlighting his Division I accomplishments was his team's first ever appearance in an NCAA regional in 1994 when WSU opened the tournament with a 14-12 win over North Carolina State.
The Dayton-area native spent time in Major League Baseball before he came to WSU, serving as a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers in 1961-62 and 1965, and for the Cleveland Indians in 1963.
The number he wore (42) is now retired with the Raiders.
