Men's Tennis Hosts Wright State Invitational

Oct. 8, 2007

DAYTON, OH - The Wright State men's tennis team opened their 2007-08 season by hosting the Wright State Invitational at the WSU Tennis Courts. First Year head coach Nate Reinhart watched as the Green and Gold won two of the three doubles flights and a pair of Raiders advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A main draw.

"I was very pleased with the way our team competed over the weekend," head coach Nate Reinhart said. "They have worked extremely hard on their strength and conditioning this fall and it is clearly beginning to pay off."

Senior Tony Teufel and junior Nick Camilleri each advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A main draw in the WSU Invitational. Camilleri dropped his semifinal match to Doug Matthews (3-6, 7-5, 3-6), while Teufel dispatched of Duquesne's Mark Maciuch in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

Teufel would fall in the finals to Xavier's Matthews, losing by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Teufel would also team up with Jan Alafriz on the doubles side to win the Flight B doubles draw with a round-robin record of 2-1.

Teufel and Alafriz dropped their first match, but rallied to defeat doubles teams from Xavier (8-6) and Dayton ((8-5) to take the flight championship. The pair dropped their first match to Duquesne by a score of 9-8(6).

In Flight A doubles, Camilleri paired with Landon Neuman to post a perfect 3-0 record and win the flight. The duo defeated the #1 singles teams from Duquesne, Dayton and Xavier, each by scores of 8-3.

"Between and singles and doubles matches this weekend, Nick played a lot of tennis," Reinhart said. "I feel that our success this weekend was attributed to our ability to continually sustain a high level of intensity."

On the weekend, Teufel played in seven matches and posted an overall record of 5-2. Camilleri took the court in six matches and posted a record of 5-1 overall. Newman was 3-2 overall on the weekend and Pip Rehg advanced to the finals of the Flight B consolation bracket.

The Raiders will not return to action until October 18 when they travel north to compete in the Wilson/ITA Fall Regional hosted by the University of Minnesota. Match times and opponents will be released at a later date.
