
Women Outlast Detroit 65-54

The Wright State women's basketball team used a 44-point second half and posted their second straight victory, 65-54 over Detroit. In the game, senior Brittney Whiteside tallied 20 points, including 14 free throws, and Erica Richardson score 11 of her career-high 15 in the second half.
The Raiders took an early 5-2 lead when Kanisha Ward converted a layup at the 13:23 mark in the first half, but Detroit would make a run and control most of the first half. The Raiders were cold from the field, shooting only 22 percent in the first half, but built momentum heading into the half.
After trailing most of the first half the Raiders took the lead when Steph Comisar knocked down a three-point basket from the left wing, giving WSU a 15-14 lead. After a Titan turnover, Comisar struck again. The senior sank a three pointer from the right wing and pushed the Raiders lead to 18-14 with 2:07 remaining in the half.
After a Detroit basket, senior Brittney Whiteside slashed through the lane and converted on a layup while being fouled. Whiteside converted the free throw and gave the Raiders a 21-16 lead going into halftime.
In the first half, the Raiders forced 21 Titan turnovers and converted those mistakes into 14 points. Whiteside led all players with eight points in the first stanza, while Comisar chipped in seven.
Detroit started the second half with a layup to cut the WSU lead to three points, but Tyanda Hammock converted a three-pointer from the corner and added fast break layup to push the lead to six.
Richardson pushed the lead to seven later in the half, sinking two free throws at the 12:42 mark, and Whitney Lewis swelled the advantage to 41-32 two free throws of her own. Detroit wouldn't back down though, clawing back within six points three times through the final seven minutes.
The Raiders lead was cut to six on a Keashaun Bond three-pointer, but Comisar again answered with a triple of her own at 9:48. The Raiders would add a pair of Richardson baskets over the next minute and hit free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Wright State shot only 30mpercent for the contest, but the Green and Gold forced 32 turnovers and converted those into 22 points. The last 17 points for WSU in the game came via free throws, including a perfect 10 for 10 from Whiteside.
Whiteside added three assists and three rebounds to her 20 points and Richardson added five rebounds and a steal to her 15 points.
The next action for the Green and Gold will be on Thursday, February 22 at Green Bay. The Raiders and Phoenix will tip-off at 8:00 Dayton time.
