The Wright State women's basketball team hung with #23/24 Green Bay for most of the first half, but the Phoenix used a 17-2 run to take control and went on to a 73-42 Horizon League win at the Phoenix Sports Center Thursday night.
Green Bay led 10-2 early, but the Raiders eventually tied the game at 16 with 9:57 remaining in the first half following an Erica Richardson three-point play. Kayla Groh hit a layup and a three to put the Phoenix back up five, but layups from Sierra Crayton drew Wright State to within one at 21-20 at the 6:22 mark.
Green Bay, however, scored 10 of the final 12 points of the half, five by Nicole Soulis, and then opened the second half with a 7-0 run to go up 38-22. Baskets by Danielle Duncan and Crayton cut the deficit to 12, but WSU could get no closer as the Phoenix followed with a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Wright State shot 43 percent and had a 31-24 rebounding edge, but the Phoenix shot 49 percent, including 10 of 25 from three-point range, and forced 31 turnovers while committing 14, resulting in a 31-11 differential in points off of turnovers.
Brittney Whiteside led the Raiders with nine points while Crayton had eight and Whitney Lewis seven.
Groh and Kati Harty paced Green Bay (22-3, 13-0 Horizon) with 12 points while Amanda Popp had 10 as all 10 Phoenix players scored.
Wright State, now 7-17 overall and 5-8 in the Horizon League, returns to action on Saturday, February 24, at Milwaukee starting at 3:00 Eastern.
