The Wright State baseball team took the series finale from Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field in Milwaukee. The Raiders won 7-1 behind a complete game effort from left-handed starter Kyle Kearcher and a pair of RBI's from Justin Parker.
Dan Biedenharn's 14th sacrifice bunt of the season. Jeremy Hamilton then brought Oeder around to score on a single to left field for his league-leading 44th RBI of the season. Kearcher got the start and allowed the only UWM run to cross the plate in the second inning. After a leadoff walk to Nick Wichser and a single to Grant Burkovitz, Kearcher coaxed a double play ball, but the run would come across to knot the score at 1-1.
The Raiders responded in the third inning with a pair of runs on three hits to claim the lead for good. Hamilton led off the inning with a triple down the left field line and score when Parker singled to drive home his first RBI of the game. With two outs in the inning, Brian Shoup smacked a double into the left-center field gap, scoring Parker, to push WSU lead to 3-1.
That's all that Kearcher would need as he shut down the Panthers offense the rest of the afternoon, allowing only four hits. Kearcher struck out two, walked two and allowed only one base runner to reach third base. He retired the side in order in five of nine innings and threw 106 pitches to improve to 7-3 this season.
The Raiders would add a run in the sixth, a pair of runs in the seventh and a single run to cap the scoring in their 25th victory of the season.
Parker collected three hits and drove in a pair of RBI's, while Hamilton, Oeder and Shoup each chipped in two hits. John Kopilchack tripled, scored a run and drove in an RBI in the game for WSU.
The Raiders are now 25-15 overall this season and improve to 16-8 in the Horizon League. The Green and Gold have won six of their last eight league contests and will host nonleague opponent Wilmington on Monday, April 30, at Nischwitz Stadium. The first pitch against the Quakers is scheduled for 6:30.
