Men's Tennis Post 1-2 Record On Weekend Road Trip

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Wright State men's tennis squad won their first match of the season last weekend at Valparaiso. The Raiders dropped the opening match of their three-game road swing to Marquette, before defeating Valparaiso and losing to Green Bay.

The Raiders opened the weekend against Marquette in Milwaukee, falling 7-0 to the solid Big East opponent. Nick Camilleri and Brett Stewart collected the closest margins for the Raiders, each falling 6-3, 6-2.

Against Valparaiso, the Raiders would capture the doubles point behind victories at the #1 and #2 singles positions. Pip Rehg and Tony Teufel won at the #2 position over their Crusader counter parts.

In singles, Teufel and Camilleri opened play with a pair of victories at the #1 and #2 spots. Teufel defeated Alex Lau by scores of 6-1 and 6-3 and Camilleri posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mike Shideler of the Crusaders.

The deciding match came a the #4 position where the Alafriz clinched the victory for the Green and Gold. Alafriz posted the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Valparaiso's Tom Letscher to preserve the first victory of the 2008 campaign.

Then on Sunday against Green Bay, the Raiders won the first two singles matches over the Phoenix, only to fall in the final four matches.

Teufel posted a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Tim Prudlow of UWGB at the #1 singles spot and Camilleri won 7-5, 6-4 over Mark Goldin at the #2 spot.

Overall the Raiders are now 1-17 on the spring season and hold a 1-4 record in Horizon League play. The Raiders will next take to the courts on Tuesday, April 15 at IPFW for a 1:00 match.
