Wright State Men's Tennis Drops a Pair of League Matches

DAYTON, Ohio - The Wright State men's tennis team dropped a pair of Horizon League matches over the weekend at Five Seasons Tennis Club. The Raiders fell 5-2 in a closely contested match against Cleveland State and then dropped a 5-2 match to league co-leader UIC.

Against the Vikings on Saturday, the Raiders dropped a pivotal doubles point to open the match. Nick Camilleri and Landon Neuman kicked off doubles play with a victory at the #1 position, defeating Ryan Hamning and Phil Orno, 8-6. CSU would grab the next two doubles matches, including a hard fought 9-8 (3) victory at the #2 position.

In the singles, Tony Teufel and Camilleri kicked things off with tough matches at the #1 and #2 slots. Teufel dropped the #1 singles match to Orno, falling 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-10. As for Camilleri, the junior posted a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-6 comeback win at the #2 position to help WSU to a win their first point of the match.

After CSU captured the #3 position singles match, Neuman posted a victory in the #4 slot over Chris Klepatz by scores of 6-4, 6-3. With CSU holding a slim 3-2 advantage, the Vikings would take the final two singles points and claim the victory.

On Sunday, the Green and Gold dropped a 5-2 match to league co-leader UIC. Camilleri and Neuman posted their second-straight victory in the #1 doubles slot, winning 9-7 over Adriano Liccardo and Bastian Harbo. UIC would win the #2 and #3 doubles matches to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

Teufel remained undefeated in league play with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Sebastian Lystad in the #1 singles slot. At the #2 singles spot, Camilleri picked up a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Liccardo to capture his third-straight league victory.

WSU (0-15, 0-3 HL) would drop the remainder of the singles matches and fall to the Flames (9-8, 4-0 HL) by a score of 5-2.

The next match for WSU will be Friday, April 11 against Marquette in Milwaukee starting at Noon. The Raiders will take to the court in a pair of league matches this weekend (April 12-13) in Valparaiso, Ind. against Green Bay and Valparaiso.
