
Women Roll Over Youngstown State

Wright State jumped out to a 10-2 lead five minutes into the contest and never looked back as the Raiders led from start to finish in defeating the Youngstown State Penguins 72-41 in Horizon League women's basketball action at the Nutter Center Thursday night.
Ta-myra Davis accounted for six of those early points and LaShawna Thomas four to give WSU the quick start and the lead gradually grew to 29-14 following a Kanisha Ward three at the 6:41 mark. Another Ward three in the final minute helped put Wright State up 39-21 at halftime.
The Raiders shot 55 percent from the field in the first half, including five of eight from three-point range, while YSU hit for 43 percent. WSU also led 22-6 in points in the paint and 10-3 in second-chance points thanks to a 20-10 rebounding advantage.
Wright State maintained at least a 15-point lead the rest of the way and was up as much as 68-35 on a Ta'mikka Snoddy jumper with 4:12 remaining.
The 31-point margin of victory is the largest for WSU in a game since defeating Tennessee State 79-37 at the Nutter Center on November 22, 2003.
The Raiders finished the night at 53 percent shooting, eight of 14 from behind the arc, while the Penguins were at 38 percent. Wright State dominated the boards by a 40-21 count and led in points in the paint (38-14), points off of turnovers (23-6) and second-chance points (19-3).
Davis led all scorers with 16 points for the Raiders and had a near double-double with nine rebounds as did Thomas with 13 points and eight boards. Bennett and Hall each had 10 off the bench while Molly Fox had eight as the WSU bench outscored the Penguin reserves 32-23.
Kelsey Gurganus paced Youngstown State (2-15, 0-6 Horizon) with nine points.
Wright State (8-10, 4-3 Horizon) is back in action on Saturday, hosting Cleveland State at 4:30.
