
Women Fall to Detroit in HL Semifinals

A 22-8 Detroit run over the final three minutes of the first half and seven minutes of the second stanza proved to be too much to overcome as the Wright State women's basketball team fell to the Titans 78-70 in the Horizon League semifinals Friday in Green Bay.
The lead changed hands eight times in the early going, with the Raiders going ahead 16-15 on a Molly Fox jumper with 11:15 remaining in the first half. Senee Shearer followed with a three put the Titans up for good, but the margin was just one at 27-26 on a Shaunda Sandifer jumper at the 4:54 mark.
Detroit, however, scored eight of the next 10 points, including threes by Megan Hatter and Shearer, to take a 35-28 advantage into the halftime break.
The Titans shot 44 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to 39 percent for Wright State.
Detroit extended the lead to 49-34 by outscoring WSU 14-6 over the initial seven minutes of the second half and was up 75-59 with 1:21 to play before the Raiders finished the contest with an 11-3 burst.
The Titans shot 54 percent in the second half to finish at 49 percent overall and were 16 of 20 from the foul line while the Raiders shot 39 percent for the game and were 13 of 17 at the stripe. Detroit also led 34-20 in points in the paint.
Demmings led Wright State (20-12) with 20 points, 14 coming in the second half, while Fox had 17, including an 11-for-11 performance at the foul line, with nine rebounds. Sandifer added 14 points and nine boards and Lamotte chipped in 11 points.
Brown paced all scorers with 30 for Detroit (20-12) while Jones had 13 and Shearer and Putnam 10 each.
