Baseball Falls at Xavier

A grand slam by Vinny Nittoli in a five-run fifth proved to be the difference as the Wright State baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision at Xavier Tuesday afternoon.
The Musketeers scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage before the Raiders answered with one in the top of the fifth. Jeff Limbaugh led off with a double down the left field line and after moving up to third on a Justin Kopale ground out, came in to score as Cody Gardner grounded out to second.
Xavier, though, broke the game open with the five-run fifth, which included Nittoli's grand slam.
WSU took advantage of an error to scored twice in the seventh and added another in the ninth as Joe Ford connected on his first home run as a Raider to left, but could get no closer.
Garrett Gray and Limbaugh each had two hits for Wright State (16-18), which returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, as the Raiders host crosstown rival Dayton at Nischwitz Stadium starting at 6:30.
