Wright State (25-25, 17-6 HL) will prepare to host the Horizon League championship May 20-23.
Â
The Raiders fell to the Penguins 8-6 in 10 innings during the first game on Friday afternoon.
Â
Griffen Paige got the start on the mound for the Raiders in game one and pitched phenomenally in a no-decision. Paige pitched five no-hit innings with eight strikeouts.
Â
The Raiders would open the scoring with a pair of homers in the bottom of the second inning. Cy Turner opened the scoring, clubbing his team-leading 12th homer over the wall in left center. Fellow senior Zac Butler would follow a few batters later, parking his second homer of the season, a two-run shot, over the wall in left field.
Â
Youngstown State would storm all the way back and take the lead with two runs in the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.
Â
Wright State would tie the game back up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to back-to-back RBI singles off the bats of Keegan Holmstrom and JP Peltier.
Â
The two squads would exchange single tallies to enter extra innings at six runs apiece. Peltier would deliver for the Raiders in the bottom of the ninth with his second RBI single of the afternoon.
Â
The Penguins would get two runs in the top of the 10th and slam the door closed in the bottom of the 10th to secure the 8-6 win.
Â
Youngstown State would ride the momentum from gam one to complete the weekend sweep of the Raiders, taking game two 8-2.
Â
The Penguins would jump on the board early with two runs in the first and another single tally in the top of the second.
Â
The Raiders would cut the deficit to one run with runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Andrew Dunanc would drive home a run with a four-pitch bases-loaded walk, and Gus Gregory would deliver an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Â
Youngstown State would tack on five insurance runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 8-2 lead and never look back.
Â
Chet Lax got the start for the Raiders in game two, pitching three innings before turning the ball over to the Wright State bullpen. Six Raiders saw action out of the bullpen, with Cooper Robinson, Brett Denby, Brody Papay, Cooper Ashby, Evan Boeckmann, and Nate Shaw all seeing action on the mound.
