The Wright State women's basketball team scorched the nets in the second half, shooting 71 percent from the field in scoring 65 points en route to a 106-72 decision over Southeastern Louisiana Monday night at the Wright State Nutter Center.
After the Raiders scored the first seven points of the contest, it was Southeastern Louisiana that controlled the rest of the opening period, starting with a 12-4 run to take its first lead at the 3:28 mark. The margin grew to six on a Nanna Pool jumper and another basket by Pool in the closing seconds put the Lions up 21-16.
The game was then tied at 27 until WSU went in front for good with 12 straight points, five coming from Emily Vogelpohl and four by Antania Hayes. Southeastern Louisiana, though, ended the half with an 8-2 run to only trail 41-35 at the break.
The Lions shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including six of nine from three-point range, while Wright State shot 36 percent, but the Raiders were 11 of 15 at the foul line.
An 11-0 burst early in the third quarter pushed the margin to 55-39 as Wright State scored 30 points in the period overall, eight coming from Demmings and six by Mackenzie Taylor.
WSU gradually built on the advantage the rest of the way, leading by as much as 34 twice in the final minutes.
The 106 points are the third-most in school history for Wright State, only trailing the 118 scored against Central State on December 31, 2014, and the 108 at Oakland on January 29, 2015.
The Raiders connected on 25 of 35 shots the final two quarters, including eight of 14 three-pointers, to finish at 54 percent overall and 12 of 27 from behind the arc. Wright State led in points in the paint (52-20), points off of turnovers (25-15) and second-chance points (15-5).
