Softball Falls Twice in Opening Day of Hillenbrand Invitational

The Wright State softball team opened its season Friday by dropping a pair of games at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. The Raiders fell to host and #14 ranked Arizona 22-1 and 13-2 to San Jose State.
The Raiders posed a scoring threat in the first as Jess Gorman, who had two hits in the game, led off with a double to left and went to third on a Reagan Stofcheck grounder to second, but was stranded there as the next two batters grounded out.
Arizona used a three-run home run to take the lead in the bottom of the first and added 15 runs in the second and four more in the third.
WSU picked up its run in the fifth as Alexis Mayle reached second on an error and after pinch-runner Ashton Salyers advanced to third on an Angie Clark hit, scored on a Honnah Susor grounder.
In the second game, San Jose State quickly took control of the contest by scoring 11 times in the bottom of the first. The Raiders scored single runs in the second and again in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Kite.
Wright State continues tournament play with two games Saturday, taking on Drake at 1:00 Eastern and Loyola Marymount at 3:00 Dayton time.
